cultural heritage represents a broad sector that enjoys unlimited support from the leadership, may God protect them, due to its vital role in highlighting the historical and cultural significance of the Kingdom as a cradle of civilizations and a crossroads of ancient trade routes. Therefore, the decision was made to establish a Heritage Authority to oversee and develop cultural heritage.
The Heritage Authority, one of the bodies within the Ministry of Culture, was established in February 2020. It is the government entity tasked with overseeing the cultural heritage sectors: antiquities, architectural heritage, handicrafts, intangible heritage, in addition to World Heritage, represented by the registration of Saudi Arabian heritage sites and elements on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Ministry of Culture's launch of a dedicated Heritage Authority stems from its belief in the importance of preserving cultural heritage in all its forms—tangible and intangible—and the necessity of developing and enhancing it in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030. This initiative also reflects the Kingdom's historical and cultural significance, characterized by its rich and diverse heritage. The Kingdom boasts a vast number of archaeological sites across its various regions, representing successive civilizations. These sites encompass architectural heritage, diverse and authentic handicrafts, and elements of intangible heritage that embody the culture of this nation.
The Authority's tasks and responsibilities toward developing the heritage sector in Saudi Arabia are guided by a vision that emphasizes "celebrating our heritage as a national and global cultural treasure," and a mission that includes "protecting, managing, and enabling innovation and sustainable development of the components of cultural heritage." The Authority is responsible for developing, protecting, and managing cultural assets and heritage sites, recognizing their crucial role in strengthening national identity and pride, as well as their contribution to the national economy and culture.
In achieving its goals and strategy, the Heritage Commission is committed to partnering with the public, private, and non-profit sectors, and to establishing channels of communication and cooperation with specialists and stakeholders in the heritage sector, as well as with professional associations and centers. Through its management of this sector, the Commission also supports specialized centers and entities to participate in the implementation of projects and initiatives.
With the support and guidance of His Highness Prince Badr bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Heritage Commission, the Commission is implementing a range of projects and programs to protect, develop, sustain, and invest in heritage culturally and economically.
The Commission's website serves as an important platform for introducing its activities and projects, and as a link with the public in general, and those interested in heritage in particular, to understand their needs and suggestions related to heritage.

About the CEO
Dr. Jasser Suleiman Al-Harbash oversaw the National Program for Crafts and Handicrafts, served as Deputy Minister of Education for Scholarships and General Supervisor of Saudi Cultural Attachés, and held the position of CEO of the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage in Qassim. He obtained his Master's and PhD degrees in Computer Engineering and Science from the University of Connecticut in the United States of America.
